Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of sustainable environmental management, offering advanced tools for energy optimization, biodiversity monitoring, water resource conservation, and climate action. AI is a transformative technology, which is capable of addressing complex environmental challenges through data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, automation and intelligent resource optimization. Sustainable environmental management requires efficient monitoring, conservation and utilization of natural resources, while reducing to the barest minimum ecological degradation and ensuring long-term environmental resilience. This paper will address the potential role of AI in enhancing sustainable environmental management, across various sectors, such as agriculture, climate change, waste management, water resources management, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy optimization and population control. The paper will further discuss the integration of Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), the Internet of Things (IoT), Remote Sensing, Robotics, and bid data analytics in environmental sustainability management. The paper will also examine the challenges associated with AI adoption, ethical considerations, data privacy, energy consumption, technological inequality and governance issues. This keynote address concludes that AI has great potential to enhance sustainability outcomes, especially when implemented responsibly and supported by strong regulatory frameworks, interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainable innovation strategies.
