About the Journal
The African Journal of Environmental Research (AJER) is published by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, Uli, Nigeria.
Aim and Scope
AJER is a peer-reviewed Journal established in 2017. It provides practitioners, educators, researchers and students with state-of-the-art research output in order to promote scholarship, research, professionalism and excellence in the varied disciplines of the built and human environment. The focus is to bring together theory, empiricism, practical developments and innovations in the built environment. AJER publishes well-researched articles in all specialisms in the fields of Architecture, Building and Construction Management, Estate Management, Fine and Applied Arts, Urban and Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Transportation Planning, Geography, Environmental Management, Meteorology/Climatology, Environmental Law, Environmental Economics, Environmental Health and Environmental Psychology
Publishing policy
AJER is primarily an online peer-reviewed journal publication. However, special prints of hardcopies may be commissioned by the Editorial Committee. All papers are available on our website under the open access policy. The Journal aims to publish two times in the year ( March, and September). Also, special issues which will be announced, will be published in line with specific objectives. The editorial staff shall endeavour to ensure quick turn-around times and keep authors informed of developments relating to their paper, Submissions are to be made online via the website. There ¡s no limitation on number of pages for each article. Authors can track the status of their submissions by logging into the webpage.
Review Policy
AJER will subject all submitted papers to a peer review process after initial screening by the editorial committee. The double-blind peer-review process will be conducted by at least two reviewers who are experts in the field. A paper will be accepted on the recommendation of the Editorial Committee and reviewers of the article.
Copyright policy
AJER will invite authors to complete a copyright license-to-publish form, after receipt of accepted manuscripts. This will be communicated to the corresponding author indicated at submission of manuscript. Any changes in contact details should be affected by logging into the journal site or communicating the editor. Authors, their employer or institution, have certain rights to reuse their work. An explanation of these is in our copyright statement on our website. AJER does not accept papers that have been previously published or have been submitted for publication elsewhere.
Language policy
AJER requires that all papers be submitted in English language. The standard of written English should be good to enable the editors and reviewers understand the paper content. Where necessary, it may be helpful for authors to have their manuscripts edited for language before submitting them. This will help others fully understand the academic content of the paper. Language editing, however, does not guarantee acceptance of manuscript for publication.
Payments/Access policy
A mandatory minimal handling fee shall be charged for each researched article submitted for publication. This policy, like all others, may be reviewed by the Editorial Committee as necessary. As of December 2025, the fee is Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (₦35,000 / £25 / $30). This amount includes a ₦10,000 review fee payable at submission and a ₦25,000 publication fee payable before the article is published.

After payment and successful peer review, AJER publishes all articles as open access. Published articles are freely and universally accessible via the internet.
