About the Journal

The COOU Journal of Real Estate & Built Environment is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Department of Estate Management, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. It is dedicated to advancing knowledge, research, and professional practice in real estate and the built environment. It publishes high-quality theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented research works in the following areas: Real Estate Management and Practice; Property Valuation and Investment Analysis; Land Policy, Administration, and Governance; Housing Studies and Housing Policy; Sustainable Built Environment and Green Development; Sustainability, Environmental and Climate Studies; Urban and Regional Planning and Development; Technology and Innovation in the Built Environment; Legal, Institutional, and Professional Practice Issues; Social, Environmental, and Developmental Dimensions of the Built Environment. It seeks to contribute to sustainable development discussions, promote professional excellence, and enhance policy innovation through rigorous scholarship and practical insights that enhance the performance and resilience of real estate markets and built environments worldwide.

Publishing Policy

The COOU Journal of Real Estate & Built Environment is an online, peer-reviewed publication. However, special print editions may be produced upon the approval of the Editorial Committee. All published articles are made available under an open access policy on the Journal’s website. The Journal is published annually (July). The Editorial Team is committed to ensuring the timely processing of manuscripts and keeping authors informed throughout the review process. Submissions must be made online via the Journal’s website. There is no restriction on article length. Authors may track the progress of their submissions on the website.

Review Policy

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the Editorial Committee. Papers that meet the basic submission requirements are subjected to a double-blind peer review process. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two experts in the relevant field. Final decisions regarding acceptance are based on the recommendations of the reviewers and the Editorial Committee.

Copyright Policy

Upon acceptance of a manuscript, authors are required to complete a copyright license-to-publish form. This will be communicated to the corresponding author indicated at submission. Authors (and their employers or institutions) retain certain rights to reuse their work, as specified in the Journal’s copyright statement available on the website. The Journal does not consider manuscripts that have been previously published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Language Policy

All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors are expected to ensure clarity, coherence, and a high standard of written English to facilitate effective peer review. Where necessary, authors are encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission. However, language editing does not guarantee acceptance for publication.

Payments and Access Policy

A mandatory handling fee is charged for each research article submitted for publication. This policy may be reviewed periodically by the Editorial Committee.

As of December 2025, the total fee is:
₦35,000 / £25 / $30, comprising:

• ₦10,000 review fee (payable at submission)
• ₦25,000 publication fee (payable upon acceptance, before publication)

All accepted and published articles are made freely accessible online under the Journal’s open access policy, ensuring universal access to research findings.

Readers are encouraged to subscribe to the journal’s publishing notification service. To do so, click on the Register link located at the top of the journal’s homepage. Registration enables readers to receive the Table of Contents via email whenever a new issue is published. Subscribing also helps the journal demonstrate its level of readership and academic support. Readers are assured that all personal information provided, including names and email addresses, will be used solely for journal-related communication, in line with the journal’s Privacy Statement.
